今更の話ではございますが、インターネットって奴はもの凄いんでございますよ。時は1961年の寒い1月でございます。米国のワシントンD.C.てぇところで新しい大統領が宣誓式を行いましたなぁ。その名はJohn Fitzgerald Kennedyと申しますアイリッシュ系移民の子孫でございまして、アイリッシュとしては初めての米国大統領でございますな。知らない人はいないという有名な方でございました。そしてまたその死に方も壮絶な暗殺でしたけれど、未だに本当のところはわかっておりませんし、犯人とされておりますLee Harvey Oswaldが真犯人だなんて思っている人はこの世の中にはもう誰ひとりとしていないというくらいに怪しい匂いがぷんぷんする死でございましたねぇ。
あの人は死んだあと、様々なことが暴露されておりましてねぇ、なんでもセックス中毒者だったんだという話までございます。後の民主党大統領のお一人もそれに近いことをいわれたりしましたねぇ。
さて、話は元に戻りますよぉ。このJFKの就任演説で有名なのは「And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.」でございますが、実は他の部分を使って曲が作られましてねえぇ。ドーナツ盤として売りに出されたのでございます。私、随分前からあの曲をもう一回聴いてみたいもんだと、密かに熱望していたものでございますよ。それが戯れに「JFK, together」というキーワードでググってみたら一発で当たりました！以前にこれをやった時には全然ヒットしなかったんです。つまり、それ以降に何事かこの曲について書かれた方がたくさんおられるということで、これは多分私以上の世代が随分ブログを書くようになったということの証明になるんじゃないかという思いを強くしたんでございますよ。
残念ながら私はこのドーナツ盤を買っておりませんで、菊名の友達が持っていたのを良く聴かせて貰ったのでございます。ようやく胸のつかえがひとつ下りました。
実際の演説中にはこう語られております。
Let both sides seek to invoke the wonders of science instead of its terrors.
Together let us explore the stars, conquer the deserts, eradicate disease, tap the ocean depths, and encourage the arts and commerce.Let both sides unite to heed, in all corners of the earth, the command of Isaiah -- to "undo the heavy burdens, and [to] let the oppressed go free."¹

All this will not be finished in the first one hundred days. Nor will it be finished in the first one thousand days; nor in the life of this Administration; nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin.
